The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are one of the most successful franchises in the CFL. However, their recent wait for a Grey Cup remains elusive in the post-millennium era.
Founded in 1950, the Tiger-Cats were formed when the Hamilton Tigers merged with the Hamilton Wildcats, resulting in the new “Tiger-Cats” nickname.
This page discusses the Hamilton Tiger-Cats players who have featured in 2023 and are likely to play big roles in the upcoming 2024 CFL season.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats Roster 2023
2023 Ticats CFL Season Overview
It was another frustrating season for the Tiger-Cats in 2023. After finishing third in the East Division, they did just about enough to reach the postseason playoffs.
However, they were promptly dispatched in the East Semi-Final, losing 27-12 to the Montreal Alouettes. This defeat brought their season to an abrupt end.
Some fans may see this as a solid year, especially after losing their opening three matches of the regular season schedule. Nevertheless, the team was plagued by inconsistency throughout the campaign.
In fact, Hamilton were the lowest-scoring team in the East Division with just 408 points scored – seven fewer than the Ottawa Redblacks who finished rock bottom with only four wins.
The Tiger-Cats’ Tim Hortons Field home was the venue for the 110th Grey Cup at the end of the 2023 CFL season, but there was no chance of the Ti-Cats getting that far. The 2023 CFL season was the fourth year under the leadership of head coach Orlondo Steinauer.
It’s also worth noting that Steinauer has been the team’s general manager since the start of the 2022 CFL season, overseeing the Ticats’ roster, including player retainment and recruitment.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Roster 2024/25
Looking ahead to the 2024 and the Ticats roster for the next CFL season, it’s all change in both positions, with Scott Milanovich becoming the Tiger-Cats’ new head coach.
The franchise also has a new general manager, with Ed Hervey appointed. Steinauer remains as president of football operations.
The franchise has made several moves to retain its top talent for the 2024 season. American offensive lineman Jordan Murray has put pen to paper on a new contract covering both the 2024 and 2025 CFL seasons. Murray joined midway through last season and has played in the NFL previously with the Indianapolis Colts.
Fellow offensive lineman Kendrick Sartor and long snapper Gordon Whyte have been retained for next season’s Ticats roster too. The latter played in every game of the 2023 CFL season, including their disappointing playoff loss to Montreal.
In terms of new signings, a quintet of American players has been announced. The headline pick of the five is former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Cameron Batson.
Batson, who featured 27 times across four seasons for the Titans, then joined the Atlanta Falcons for the 2022 NFL season.
Also entering the Ticats roster are Shabari Davis Jr., offensive lineman Brendan Bordner, and a brace of wide receivers, Devon Williams and Kaylon Geiger.
As for the 2024 CFL Draft, the Tiger-Cats will have the fifth pick during each of the eight rounds, aside from any traded picks with other franchises.
